C.O.M.

For those of you not familiar with window coverings or re-upholstery, you may not know what C.O.M. stands for, and I am happy to explain this term because it is something I am a fan of!

C.O.M. stands for Customer's Own Material. This means that if you find a fabric somewhere else that you fall in love with, or have already had an ottoman or pillows made out of, our workrooms can use that same material for your roman shades or draperies. Doing this can really bring a room together!

Shannon, one of our recent customers from Lee's Summit, Missouri, fell in love with this Calico fabric and is having her ottoman, decorative couch pillows and now draperies made from it.

Here is the drapery in her newly remodeled, sunroom. The sunroom is a completely closed-in addition to the back of her house and it is BEAUTIFUL! We chose a coordinating fabric for her roman shades in the other windows, and window film on the arches above.

The drapery was made by Lafayette and the roman shades are Phase II. I will post more pictures once the window film, ottoman, and pillows are done! Can't wait to see this room really come together :)

Showroom Table DIY Project

I have a few minutes of down time on this typical, crazy Monday to share a neat project that we did with some old shutters!

I use the term DIY lightly because, although it could be done with a lot of patience and attention to detail, you need to be pretty handy to do this! I had my friend, Luke, help me out who has been a carpenter for many years and I am so beyond pleased with the final result!

We started with four, white shutters, which were cut down to fit the size requirements of what we wanted. The shutters are used as the "sides" of the table. Luke built a frame out of birch wood which the shutters were attached to, then the table top was attached, also birch wood which was purchased from Home Depot. We stained the frames and table top in a espresso stain to contrast the shutters.

Inside, Luke built shelves that can be used for hidden storage. In our case, we use the shelves for our sample books. The doors stay closed with standard shutter magnets. So not only did the table turn out beautiful, it is also very useful!

I wish we had taken pictures throughout the process, we only have the finished product but here it is!

We love our shutter table! It's a neat way to reuse materials and hides our sample books! Feel free to contact me with any questions about the table if you are interested in making one yourself!

Typically, our blinds and shutters that we aren't using, are donated to Habitat for Humanity which is an incredible company that helps and builds homes for families stuck in undesirable living conditions.

Happy Monday, everyone!

Convention

Budget Blinds has had an exciting week at our yearly convention! This year we all met in Washington D.C. to learn about new products, share our success stories from the previous year and to prepare for 2014! One of the new products I am so excited to share and learn more about are these woven wood shutters. I don't know who came up with this idea but it is fantastic and I can see these becoming hugely popular! As shown in the picture, we can even do specialty shapes with this product.

Aren't those awesome?? I can't wait to share all of our other new products with you guys when we return from convention in a few days.

Happy Thursday, everyone!

Happy New Year!

I am a few days late as things have been crazy here starting off the new year, but that's a good thing right?! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are as excited as I am about the upcoming year!

I have many exciting things to share with you all! First off I think I should mention that we have moved! We are still in historic downtown Lee's Summit but our new address is...

6 SW 3rd Street
Lee's Summit MO 64063

Our new showroom is one of the original buildings in Lee's Summit. It is a beautiful space with exposed brick walls and an interior archway. Stop by and see it for yourself anytime! We are still in the decorating process but I will post pictures once all of that is complete.

I am very excited to share with you our new European line of soft treatments! Vadain International and Budget Blinds have partnered up to bring you the best in roman shades and draperies!

Soft treatments account for over 80% of window coverings in Europe and that trend is moving its way to the US! Vadain International has been in business for over 30 years but recently came out with a line of products that are available EXCLUSIVELY through Budget Blinds. Visit Vadain's website for more pictures and information about this great company!

Lastly, mark your calendars for Saturday, February 8th! Downtown Lee's Summit is having their annual Chocolate Crawl and we will be having an incredible "One Day Only Sale." I can't give away details yet, but I will very soon so keep checking back! You won't want to miss it, plus who doesn't like chocolate and shopping??

Happy Tuesday everyone!
